In a thrilling pitchers’ duel, the Marshall Tigers emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over the Jordan Hubmen in their home opener on Friday night. The game featured just one hit between both teams, showcasing the dominance of the pitchers on the mound.
Marshall’s Joshua Kraft was the star of the game, both on the mound and at the plate. Kraft held the Hubmen scoreless for five innings, striking out nine batters and allowing only four walks. He also contributed offensively with a crucial fourth-inning single.
The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Talan Plante drew a leadoff walk for the Tigers. Samuel Thor, running for Plante, advanced to second base on a passed ball and eventually scored on a sacrifice bunt by Jude Knudson.
On the other side, Jordan’s Conner Larson also had an impressive performance, striking out 10 batters over six innings while allowing just one hit and one unearned run.
Marshall’s defense was also key to their victory, with catcher Talan Plante showcasing his skills by catching two runners attempting to steal bases.
With this win, Marshall improves to 2-0 for the season and will look to continue their success as they host Hutchinson in their next game on Monday. The Tigers’ strong pitching and solid defense will be crucial as they aim for another victory on their home turf.
