Reading Time: 2 minutes

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, recently inaugurated the first phase of the Mleiha Dairy Farm, marking a significant milestone in the emirate’s efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and provide healthy food options for its residents. The event, attended by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, showcased the commitment of Sharjah to integrated productive projects that support the well-being of its citizens.

During his speech at the inauguration, Sheikh Sultan highlighted the importance of projects like the Mleiha Dairy Farm in ensuring a steady supply of healthy food for families in Sharjah. He emphasized the success of previous projects, such as vegetable production and wheat farming, and expressed his optimism for the future of the dairy farm. With a budget of approximately AED 600 million allocated to the project, Sheikh Sultan underscored the significant investment being made to establish a sustainable and efficient dairy production system.

The Ruler of Sharjah revealed that the dairy farm is home to purebred cattle imported from northern Germany and southern Denmark, with each cow carrying a female fetus. This strategic breeding process aims to expand the herd and increase milk production in the coming years. Sheikh Sultan emphasized the farm’s focus on providing complete care to the cattle, ensuring their health, nutrition, and natural growth to produce high-quality organic milk for consumers.

In addition to dairy farming, Sheikh Sultan discussed the upcoming poultry project, which will complement the existing agricultural initiatives in Mleiha. The poultry will be raised using organic farming methods, free from growth accelerators, hormones, or artificial substances, to ensure the production of natural and healthy meat and eggs. By integrating these projects, Sharjah aims to create a sustainable food production system that benefits both the environment and the health of its residents.

Sheikh Sultan also highlighted the interconnected nature of the production projects, where by-products from one sector are utilized to feed or enrich another, promoting environmental sustainability and resource efficiency. The emphasis on organic farming practices and natural remedies for livestock reflects Sharjah’s commitment to promoting a healthy and environmentally conscious approach to food production.

During his tour of the farm facilities, Sheikh Sultan witnessed the advanced technologies and practices employed to ensure the well-being of the cows and the quality of the milk produced. From automated milking parlors to biosecurity measures and organic feed sources, the farm is equipped to maintain high standards of hygiene and animal welfare.

In a panel discussion with children, Sheikh Sultan emphasized the importance of healthy eating habits and encouraged the younger generation to educate their peers about the benefits of consuming nutritious food. The engagement with children underscores Sharjah’s commitment to promoting a culture of health and well-being from an early age.

Overall, the inauguration of the Mleiha Dairy Farm represents a significant step towards achieving sustainable food security and promoting organic agriculture in Sharjah. With a focus on quality, sustainability, and innovation, the farm is poised to become a leading producer of organic milk in the region, setting a new standard for agricultural practices in the Middle East.
