First Phase of Perry MIA Memorial Installation Completed

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Perry Missing in Action Memorial in Perry Village is taking shape with the installation of a granite monument on May 14. The monument, located on the grounds of the Perry Historical Museum, will serve as a focal point for the memorial dedicated to U.S. military service members who are missing in action.

Perry American Legion Post 697 has led the planning and fundraising efforts for the MIA memorial, which will also feature granite panels representing each branch of the military, granite benches, and engraved brick pavers. The overall cost of the project is estimated to be between $125,000 to $150,000, with half of the funds already collected through online campaigns and direct mail appeals.

The newly installed monument, designed by Jim Belding Monuments, features an image of the American flag and the phrase “Missing in Action” in large text. Below, a message honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending the country. The monument sits on a granite base with a dedication to fallen soldiers.

Members of the American Legion Post witnessed the installation of the monument, which was completed with the help of Leppo Rents providing equipment at no cost. The memorial will also include engraved brick pavers, granite markers, and benches to honor both MIAs and other veterans.

Post Commander Tom Anderson aims to have the entire Perry MIA Memorial completed by Memorial Day 2025, with opportunities for donors to sponsor various features of the memorial. For more information on how to contribute, contact Tom Anderson at 330-352-5378 or visit perryvillageohio.com.
