The Saranac Lake Placid boys lacrosse team secured their first victory of the season on Monday with a commanding 11-2 win over the Malone Huskies at Schroeter’s Field in Saranac Lake. This victory not only marked their first home game of the season but also their first win since the program merged in 2019.
After a rough start to the season with two consecutive losses, the SLP boys came back strong in this game, dominating from start to finish. Despite the challenges of coming off a two-week spring break, the team showed resilience and skill on the field.
Sophomores Lukas Miemis and Scottie Nicholas led the charge with hat tricks each, while Caleb Wylie added two goals to the scoreboard. The team’s solid performance was also supported by senior Kellan Duffy, senior Owen Muncil, and sophomore Gerald Woodruff, who each contributed with a goal.
In the goal, sophomore Charlie Wilson put on a stellar performance, recording four saves and earning his first varsity win. Coach Kris Miemis praised Wilson’s strong presence and decision-making throughout the game.
This win holds significant importance for the young SLP team, which consists of 16 sophomores and only six total seniors and juniors. Looking ahead, the team will face the Plattsburgh Hornets on the road, aiming to carry the momentum from this victory into future games.
