Five people have been seriously injured in a crash between two cars in Forest Lake, Brisbane, with speed being investigated as a possible factor.
The incident occurred at around 10.10pm on Saturday when a Mercedes-Benz travelling south along Forest Lake Boulevard collided with a Toyota LandCruiser at the intersection of Renoir Crescent. Queensland Police are still investigating the exact cause of the crash, but a police spokesman mentioned that speed may have played a role.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing a loud crash, with one resident describing it as “an almighty boom” that shook her out of bed. Shortly after, the sound of sirens filled the night as emergency services rushed to the scene.
The occupants of the vehicles involved in the crash suffered serious injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital. The 28-year-old male driver of the Mercedes-Benz, along with his two 22-year-old male passengers and a 20-year-old woman, were all hospitalized with serious injuries. The 52-year-old woman driving the LandCruiser also sustained serious injuries and remains in a critical condition.
According to Queensland Ambulance Service medical director Steve Rashford, the injuries sustained by the victims were deemed “life-threatening” due to the high impact of the crash. The incident required a significant response from emergency services, including five ambulances, critical care paramedics, ambulance medical officers, and a supervisor.
The Forensic Crash Unit is currently conducting investigations to determine if speed was a contributing factor to the collision. The community is urged to exercise caution on the roads and adhere to speed limits to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
