Reading Time: < 1 minute

Flagstaff’s storied past comes to life at the Weatherford Hotel, where a series of events will showcase the rich history of the iconic building and the colorful characters who have passed through its doors.

Wednesdays at the Weatherford, a free event hosted by Weatherford Hotel owners Henry Taylor and Pamela “Sam” Green, will take place on the first Wednesday of each month in April, May, and June. The event is a collaboration with the Townsite Community Land Trust (TCLT), which focuses on renovating historic homes for affordable housing.

The event will feature presentations by local historians and experts on various aspects of Flagstaff’s history. On April 3, Drew Purcell will delve into the mysteries of the Weatherford Hotel, including why a prominent community member once shot up the lobby in 1912 and why John W. Weatherford was known as “Colonel” despite having no military background.

In May, Richard McGaugh will explore the early history of Flagstaff’s railroad and logging industries, while in June, members of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will discuss their organization’s efforts in historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

According to TCLT board member CJ Lucke, understanding the stories behind Flagstaff’s historic buildings is essential for appreciating the town’s unique character and heritage.

Wednesdays at the Weatherford will be held at the hotel’s Exchange Pub on Leroux Street, with discounted appetizers and specials for attendees.
