Flashes conclude tennis season at MAIS Class 5A state tournament – The Vicksburg Post

The St. Aloysius tennis team wrapped up their season at the MAIS Class 5A state tournament with a mix of triumphs and disappointments. Carrie Wood and Walker Moore, who had only lost one mixed doubles match all season, faced a tough loss in the championship match against Pillow Academy’s John Carter Walker and Millie Smith. Despite winning the first set, they ultimately fell 4-6, 6-0, 7-5 in a nail-biting third set.

The team had a tough day overall, with other players also facing defeats in various brackets. Michael Moore lost to eventual champion Walker Cox, while Hendrix Eldridge and the No. 2 boys’ doubles team of Caleb Stewart and Ryan Davidson also fell short in their matches.

Despite the setbacks, coach Rick Shields remains optimistic about the team’s future, as all six players who competed in the tournament will be returning next season. With players like Stewart, Davidson, and Wood showing promise and determination, Shields is hopeful for another shot at the state championship next year.
