The Kingsford varsity softball team faced off against Calumet in a doubleheader at Lodal Park on Tuesday, with the Copper Queens coming out on top in both games. In the first game, Calumet secured a 15-3 victory, while in the second game, they sealed a 17-7 win.

Despite the losses, the Flivvers put up a fight, with Ady Weber pitching five innings and striking out four in the first game. Offensively, McKenna Trulock, Jenna Viau, and Finnley Lutz each recorded an RBI for Kingsford.

In the second game, Kingsford found their offensive rhythm, scoring seven runs, but Calumet’s strong hitting ultimately secured the win. Addy Kriegl, Weber, and Kailey Sundquist each hit a home run for the Flivvers.

Meanwhile, the Florence varsity softball team dominated Elcho with an 18-0 win in their Northern Lakes Conference opener. Allison Wood and Sami Demuri showcased strong pitching, while Isabella Millan, Demuri, Leighton Lamberg, and Aurora McCarthy led the offense.

Norway also had a successful day, defeating North Dickinson in both games of a doubleheader. Elizabeth Romitti stood out for the Knights, going 3 for 4 at the plate with two stolen bases. Kara Stanchina pitched a solid game, striking out eight in the second game.

Overall, it was an action-packed day for local softball teams, with exciting matchups and standout performances on the field.
