Florida Holds $54,000 in Unclaimed Funds with Donald Trump’s Name on It
FORT LAUDERDALE — The state of Florida is holding $54,000 in unclaimed funds with former President Donald Trump’s name on it. The money, managed by the Division of Unclaimed Property, may not seem significant compared to the reported $100 million in legal bills Trump has paid since leaving office in 2021, but every dollar counts.
Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s chief financial officer, has taken a special interest in helping Trump claim the funds. After a legislative bill proposing a $5 million pool to assist with Trump’s legal expenses was vetoed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, Patronis reached out to Trump directly. In a letter filled with praise and support, Patronis urged Trump to claim his money to aid in fighting back against legal challenges.
The Division of Unclaimed Property is where forgotten money and goods end up, mostly from banks, insurance companies, and utilities. A search using the term “Trump” revealed over $54,000 waiting to be claimed by Trump, his family, or his businesses in Florida.
Various amounts under Trump’s name were found, including funds from PayPal, FedEx, and other businesses associated with Trump. Despite the efforts to notify Trump of the unclaimed funds, as of Tuesday afternoon, no one from the Trump organization has come forward to claim the money.
Patronis also reminded the public that they may have unclaimed funds waiting for them as well, encouraging everyone to check the website FLTreasureHunt.org. The story continues to unfold as the search for unclaimed funds with Trump’s name on them continues.
