The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team is gearing up for their first appearance in the UTR Sports NIT Championship after a successful 20-win season and a trip to the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. This historic opportunity was announced on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone for the program.
The UTR Sports NIT Championship will be held at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. from May 5-8, and fans can catch all the action on Amazon Prime Video. The Colonels will face off against an opponent yet to be determined in the quarterfinals on May 5.
This marks EKU’s first national postseason tournament since 2015 when they competed in the NCAA Tournament against No. 5 Texas A&M. The team’s impressive season includes a 16-win increase from the previous year, boasting a 16-0 home record, the best in the nation. They also achieved their first ITA team ranking in program history and secured their first win against a ranked opponent.
Evzen Holis was selected to the First Team All-ASUN, showcasing his talent with a 16-10 singles record from the top two spots in the lineup. EKU will join seven other teams in the eight-team tournament field, including Liberty, North Alabama, Northwestern, Pacific, Santa Carla, St. Louis, and Tulsa.
