Foreign Office issues new travel advice for those visiting Turkey

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Tourists planning a trip to Turkey have been urged to stay informed about the latest travel advice issued by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The government body recently updated its website on May 1, providing crucial information on various aspects of travel to Turkey, including health, wildfires, crime, outdoor activities, and adventure tourism.

The FCDO specifically advises against all travel to certain parts of Turkey, cautioning tourists not to visit three specific areas. Brits are warned against traveling within 10km of the border with Syria due to ongoing fighting and an increased risk of terrorism. Additionally, all but essential travel to Sirnak city and Hakkari Province is discouraged.

Despite the travel warnings, figures released by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism show a 12% increase in UK visitors to the country from January to September 2023, with 3.16 million Brits visiting during that period.

The FCDO emphasizes the importance of having adequate travel insurance that aligns with their advice, as traveling against FCDO recommendations could invalidate insurance coverage. Consular support is also limited in areas where the FCDO advises against travel.

Furthermore, the FCDO provides detailed information on various topics such as outdoor activities, health precautions, wildfires, flooding, and crime. Tourists are advised to exercise caution and follow local guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip to Turkey. Stay updated with the latest travel advice to make the most of your holiday experience.
