Foreign Office issues updated travel advice for Spain and cautions UK tourists: ‘You must not’

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Foreign Office has issued a passport warning for British tourists planning holidays to Spain this summer, urging them to take extra care of their travel documents. With over 15 million Brits flocking to Spain each year for its sandy beaches, good weather, and vibrant nightlife, the popular destination can quickly turn into a nightmare if passports are lost or stolen.

Thieves are known to target tourists in areas where they gather, using distraction techniques and working in teams to steal valuable items, including passports. The Foreign Office advises travellers to keep their passports safe, especially when collecting luggage at the airport or arranging car hire.

In the event of a lost or stolen passport, holidaymakers must renew their passport or apply for an emergency travel document to return to the UK. These emergency documents are usually valid for one single or return journey and are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

To prevent passport theft, tourists are advised not to leave their passports at hotel reception desks and to keep a copy of the photo page of their passport in a safe place. Spain has strict entry rules for non-EU visitors, including Britons post-Brexit, requiring passports to be issued within ten years of arrival and valid for at least three months after departure.

As travellers plan their next trip abroad, deals on package holidays to Spain are available from Travel Republic starting at £155 per person. Additionally, luxury suitcase brand Antler has reduced prices on their Jet2 and TUI-approved cabin bags, offering a stylish and secure way to travel. Stay safe and enjoy your summer holiday in Spain!
