“American Idol” Stars Pay Tribute to Mandisa with Emotional Performance

On Monday night’s episode of “American Idol,” stars Danny Gokey, Melinda Doolittle, and Colton Dixon came together to honor the late Mandisa with a heartfelt performance of “Shackles (Praise You)” by duo Mary Mary. Mandisa, a beloved 2006 alum of the show, passed away at her home in Nashville, Tennessee, on April 18 at the age of 47.

The emotional tribute showcased the impact Mandisa had on the music industry and her fellow “American Idol” contestants. The trio reflected on Mandisa’s legacy and the support she had shown them throughout their careers.

Doolittle shared, “I’ve known [Mandisa] for over 20 years. We started off playing background and sessions together, and she got on ‘Idol,’ and I cheered for her. I came the next season, and she cheered for me.” Gokey added that Mandisa had been a true “cheerleader” for him during difficult times in his career.

Dixon noted that the song “Shackles” perfectly summed up Mandisa’s life, stating, “I think she came in praising, and she left praising. We are going to miss her, but our loss is Heaven’s gain.”

Mandisa’s unexpected passing has left the Christian music industry and her fans in shock. Artists like TobyMac have fondly remembered her as an “authentic” Christian who shared her struggles and victories with the world.

The tribute on “American Idol” served as a touching reminder of Mandisa’s talent and the impact she had on those around her. Her legacy will continue to live on through her music and the memories shared by her friends and fans.
