Former England Spinner Supports India’s Choice of Selecting 4 Spinners for T20 World Cup

Former England spinner Graeme Swann has voiced his support for India’s decision to include four spinners in their squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies. The announcement of the 15-player squad raised eyebrows among fans and former cricketers, with some questioning the rationale behind selecting four spinners.

India skipper Rohit Sharma defended the decision, stating that he wanted four spinners for the tournament. Swann echoed this sentiment, stating, “I think taking four spinners is absolutely the way to go in the Caribbean, and I think you should never question that.”

However, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh expressed a different opinion, suggesting that three spinners would have been sufficient. He believed that India would not field four spinners in a game and speculated on the possible spin combination for matches based on the conditions.

The four spinners included in the squad are Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Yuzvendra Chahal. Despite the absence of an off-spinner in the squad, India opted against selecting Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin due to their lack of recent game time.

India’s T20 World Cup campaign will kick off against Ireland on June 5, followed by a highly-anticipated clash against Pakistan on June 9. The team will also face the USA and Canada in subsequent matches.

With Rohit Sharma leading the squad, which includes the likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant, all eyes will be on India as they aim to make a mark in the marquee event.
