The court case against tennis star Alexander Zverev, who was accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, has come to an end after a settlement was reached. The German player, currently ranked fourth in the world, has always maintained his innocence in the matter.
The agreement, according to German media, includes a monetary condition of 200,000 euros, with Zverev not found guilty of any wrongdoing. The court proceedings were terminated with the consent of the public prosecution office, and the settlement does not involve an admission of guilt.
Zverev’s former girlfriend had accused him of causing bodily harm during an argument in 2020. The case had been ongoing since last October, with a penalty order and fine of 450,000 euros issued against Zverev. However, the proceedings have now been terminated, and Zverev must pay 200,000 euros, with a portion going to the state treasury and the rest to non-profit organizations.
This is not the first time Zverev has faced allegations of misconduct in his personal life. In January 2023, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) closed an investigation into domestic abuse accusations made by another ex-girlfriend, citing insufficient evidence.
Zverev, who is set to compete in the French Open semi-finals, has expressed confidence in the German legal system and believes in his innocence. He stated, “I do believe that I’m not going to lose this procedure. There’s absolutely no chance I am.”
