Reading Time: < 1 minute

After dedicating 35 years to Cuban television, Oscar Ruiz Moreira, the former director of the National Sports News program, has made a life-changing decision to permanently relocate to the United States. Leaving behind his wife and daughter in Cuba, Moreira’s departure was announced by sports journalist Yasel Porto on Facebook.

Porto fondly remembered Moreira as a friendly and respectful colleague who had a positive impact on those around him. Despite the challenges of the television industry in Cuba, Moreira was known for his professionalism and dedication to his work. His departure marks a significant loss for Tele Rebelde, where he directed several news programs including the Midday News and the popular participation show Libre Acceso.

Colleagues and friends of Moreira expressed their support and well wishes for his new chapter in the United States. Retired sports commentator René Navarro praised Moreira’s professionalism and drive to excel, while journalist Julita Osendi highlighted his incomparable qualities as a human being. Journalist Jesús Muñoz emphasized Moreira’s stellar work ethic and character, wishing him all the best in his future endeavors.

Moreira’s relocation is part of a larger trend of Cuban professionals leaving the country in search of new opportunities. While the specific reasons for his emigration have not been disclosed, his departure has left a void in the Cuban television industry. As Moreira embarks on this new journey, his colleagues and friends remain hopeful for his success and eagerly anticipate a reunion with his family in the near future.
