Vineet Nayyar, the former Vice-Chairman of Tech Mahindra, passed away on Thursday at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of exemplary leadership and contributions to the tech industry. His death was confirmed by former MD and CEO CP Gurnani in a heartfelt post on social media.
Gurnani expressed his deep sorrow at the loss of Nayyar, describing him as a friend, philosopher, brother, guide, and statesman par excellence. He reminisced about Nayyar’s role in building India and turning around Satyam-TechM, highlighting his years of leadership that helped the company thrive.
Born on November 21, 1947, Nayyar was known for his pivotal role in Tech Mahindra’s growth and the revival of Satyam Computer Services. With a career spanning over 40 years in both private and public sectors, Nayyar held various leadership positions and made significant contributions to the industry.
Nayyar, a former Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer, also worked with the World Bank as their Chief and Head of the Energy Department, East Asia and Pacific. He played a crucial role in transforming Satyam computers into Mahindra Satyam, expanding the company’s reach into sectors like banking, healthcare, and retail.
Tributes poured in from the IT industry and business leaders, recognizing Nayyar’s visionary leadership and lasting impact on the industry. Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group, remembered Nayyar’s contributions to the company and his larger-than-life presence in the Indian business landscape.
