Miners Boys Tennis Squad Overcomes Adversity to Advance to State Tournament

The Park City Miners boys tennis team faced remarkable adversity during the Region 10 championship last Thursday in Midvale, but managed to secure four players advancing to the state tournament on May 9-11.

Freshman twin brothers Chad and Chase Johnson were set to compete together, but Chase suffered a tough injury, breaking his ankle during warmups. Despite the setback, Chad persevered and secured a spot in the state tournament, playing in honor of his injured brother.

Chad’s determination and grit were on full display as he battled through tough matches to secure a regional title. His brother Chase, who is expected to make a full recovery in about six weeks, cheered him on from the sidelines, eager to join him on the court next year.

Coach Justin DeLong praised Chad’s competitive spirit and work ethic, believing he has the potential to achieve his goals of winning a state championship and playing college tennis. DeLong also highlighted Chad’s role in inspiring future players to join the team, noting the potential for success in the coming seasons.

As the Miners prepare for the state tournament, Chad remains focused on his goal of reaching the semifinals and eventually winning a state title. With his determination and support from his team and community, Chad is poised to make a lasting impact on Park City’s tennis program.
