Franklin Regional Intermediate School recognized as one of Discovery Education’s Schools of the Year

Franklin Regional Intermediate School in Pennsylvania has been recognized as one of Discovery Education’s Schools of the Year for the 2017-18 school year. The school’s partnership with Discovery Education has allowed educators to integrate modern technology into their lesson plans and provide academic support through multimedia content and classroom tools.

During the same time period, the district worked to provide a Google Chromebook to every student and underwent technology upgrades. Additionally, 30 teachers volunteered to undergo two years of training as Discovery “digital ambassadors” to support their colleagues once the program was implemented.

Intermediate school teacher Megan Melucci praised the Discovery program, stating that it was crucial in transitioning to remote learning during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The training provided by Discovery Education helped her adapt to hybrid and online teaching formats, ultimately leading to her role as the Westmoreland Online Academy teacher.

The school’s innovative practices, including the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), have helped ensure that students are motivated to grow academically, emotionally, and socially. Principal Rob Buffone commended the teachers for gaining confidence in technology, allowing them to explore new teaching methods without hesitation.

Discovery Education officials visited the school on May 9 to present a banner and recognize the teachers and staff for their dedication to student success. The award serves as validation for the hard work and commitment of the educators at Franklin Regional Intermediate School.
