Freddie Freeman and Gavin Stone lead Dodgers to doubleheader sweep over struggling Mets – NBC Los Angeles

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Los Angeles Dodgers dominated the New York Mets in a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday night, with Gavin Stone leading the charge on the mound in the second game. Stone struck out seven batters in seven innings, allowing only three hits and no walks. The Dodgers shut out the Mets 3-0, with Alex Vesia closing out the game for his second save.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Dodgers ended their five-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory. Freddie Freeman’s two-run homer in the 10th inning sealed the win, while Teoscar Hernández contributed with three hits.

The Dodgers made a comeback in the first game after trailing 2-0, with key hits from Freeman and Chris Taylor. Mookie Betts and Miguel Rojas also made significant contributions in the doubleheader sweep.

The Mets, on the other hand, continued to struggle, losing seven of their last eight games. Despite a strong performance from pitcher Tylor Megill in the opener, the Mets couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities, leaving the bases loaded in the ninth inning.

Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani received a mixed reception from the crowd in his first game at Citi Field since signing with Los Angeles. Ohtani sat out the second game after a tough outing in the opener.

Both teams have players on the injured list, with Max Muncy and Francisco Alvarez among those sidelined for the Dodgers and Mets, respectively. The series concludes on Wednesday, with Mets left-hander David Peterson making his season debut against Dodgers left-hander James Paxton. Peterson is returning from left hip surgery, adding another layer of intrigue to the matchup.
