Free Compost Locations in Montreal

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Neighbourhoods across Greater Montreal are gearing up to help residents kickstart their gardening projects this summer by offering free compost, plants, and seeds. This initiative aims to encourage backyard gardening and provide resources to those looking to grow their own produce.

Starting on May 4, various boroughs and municipalities will be hosting events where residents can pick up gardening supplies. Lachine, for example, will be distributing compost made from garden waste and fallen leaves at the Centre Technique de Lachine. Residents are required to bring their own shovels, containers, and proof of residency to collect up to two 110-litre containers of compost per vehicle.

In Dollard-des-Ormeaux, residents can head to the Civic Centre parking lot on May 4 to receive up to 2 bags of free compost per household. Proof of residency is necessary for this giveaway.

Saint-Léonard is also joining the gardening movement by offering free compost on May 4 at the Langelier snow depot. Additionally, on May 24, residents can pick up a variety of flowers, vegetable plants, and seeds at Wilfrid-Bastien Park.

These events are a great opportunity for Montrealers to get their hands dirty and start their own gardens without breaking the bank. So mark your calendars and get ready to grow your own green oasis this summer!
