Novak Djokovic is feeling optimistic as he aims to secure a spot in the last 32 of the French Open on Thursday. The world number one, who is vying for his fourth title at Roland Garros and his record 25th Grand Slam, has been facing a dry spell recently, failing to make a final or add a title to his impressive career tally of 98 titles.
Despite this, Djokovic found encouragement in his opening match against Pierre-Hugues Herbert, where he secured a straight-sets victory. This win marked his 20th consecutive first-round victory at Roland Garros, showcasing his dominance on the clay courts.
“I’m glad that I started the way I started, the way I felt on the court,” Djokovic expressed. “Compared to the previous weeks of tournaments I played, I felt good, better. So I’m moving in a positive direction.”
Looking ahead, Djokovic is set to face Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain, a player he has previously defeated twice in straight sets. Meanwhile, fourth seed Alexander Zverev, who recently ended Rafael Nadal’s French Open campaign, is gearing up to take on David Goffin in the second round.
As the competition heats up at Roland Garros, both Djokovic and Zverev are determined to continue their winning streaks and make their mark in the tournament. Stay tuned for more thrilling matches and surprises in the days to come.
