French Open 2024: Rain Puts Play in Jeopardy as Paula Badosa, Holger Rune, and Others Fall Victim to the Weather’s Tricks

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The ongoing Roland Garros tournament in Paris is facing a major setback due to unfavorable weather conditions. The clay court matches have been repeatedly delayed, causing frustration among players and fans alike. Today, the situation is no different, with another set of top players – Paola Badosa, Holger Rune, and Tommy Paul – being affected by the ongoing rain.

The weather forecast for Roland Garros predicts a 100% cloud cover, with a yellow warning for thunderstorms starting from Thursday morning until Friday midnight. The rain has already disrupted matches, including Paola Badosa’s second-round match against Yulia Putintseva, which was halted at 4-4 in the first set but has since resumed.

Holger Rune’s upcoming match against Flavio Cobolli and Tommy Paul’s match against Fabio Fognini are also at risk of being impacted by the rain. The continuous downpour has forced back-to-back match postponements, putting pressure on players to play consecutive matches in a single day.

Even tennis legend Rafael Nadal faced a suspension in his match against Alexander Zverev due to the sudden onset of heavy rain. While the match eventually resumed after a short delay, the weather conditions have been a cause for concern for players and fans alike.

Despite the challenges posed by the weather, players like Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jannik Sinner have continued their matches under the retractable roof. As the tournament progresses, everyone is hopeful that the rain will relent, allowing for epic battles to unfold on the clay courts of Roland Garros.
