Moravian Academy’s Boys Tennis Team Secures Second Consecutive District Title

Moravian Academy’s boys tennis team clinched their second consecutive District 11 Class 3A championship title on Thursday at Lehigh University, with freshman Max Abia and senior Jackson Reid leading the charge.

Despite their age and experience differences, both players played pivotal roles in securing the victory. Abia, playing in his final district match before moving to Spain, dominated his opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. On the other hand, Reid, a newcomer to organized tennis after Moravian Academy’s baseball team disbanded, teamed up with junior Hunter Zicherman to secure a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Lions went on to defeat Allentown Central Catholic 3-1, with Abia, Reid, and their teammates showcasing exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the match. Coach Rick Brown praised Abia for his performance and Reid for seamlessly transitioning from baseball to tennis.

The victory marked Moravian Academy’s return to the top after losing to the Vikings in the previous two championship matches. The team’s success was also attributed to players like Ford Koch, a key leader who has been instrumental in guiding the Lions to an undefeated season.

With their eyes set on the PIAA Class 2A tournament, Moravian Academy looks to continue their winning streak and make their mark on the state level. The team’s dedication, talent, and camaraderie have set them apart as a force to be reckoned with in high school tennis.
