The Class 2A state tennis tournament is set to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Hawkeye Recreation and Tennis Center in Iowa City. One player to watch out for is Cedar Rapids Jefferson freshman Parker Holland, who has been making waves in the tennis scene.

Holland’s impressive performance this season caught the attention of many, including his coach Tim Preston. Holland secured wins over top players from Iowa City High and Iowa City West, showcasing his talent and potential. His dominant performance at the Class 2A district tournament earned him a spot in the state singles tournament.

Coach Preston expressed his confidence in Holland’s abilities, noting that the freshman has a great opportunity to excel at the state level. Holland, with a record of 13-6 in singles matches this season, is determined to make the most of this opportunity and learn from the experience.

Coming from a tennis family, with his mother and sister also having played the sport, Holland is no stranger to the game. His sister, a Jefferson sophomore, has also qualified for the girls’ state tournament. Holland’s upcoming match at the state tournament will be against Johnston senior Campbell Love, with a potential matchup against the top seed from Waukee Northwest.

For Holland, qualifying for the state tournament is a significant achievement and a testament to his hard work and dedication. As he prepares to compete at the state level, he is grateful for the support of his coaches and teammates, who have made his high school tennis experience enjoyable.

In addition to Holland, other players like Cedar Rapids Prairie junior Anthony Schulte and Linn-Mar’s Malcolm Rice and Garrett Bauermeister are also set to make their mark at the state tournament. With exciting matchups and talented players, the Class 2A state tennis tournament promises to be a thrilling event for players and spectators alike.
