Funding Opportunities for Businesses Impacted by Port of Baltimore Shutdowns

The recent collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore has had a significant impact on nearby businesses, leaving many struggling to retain employees and stay afloat. In response to this crisis, two new programs have been launched in Baltimore to provide much-needed relief to affected businesses.

The Port of Baltimore Worker Retention Program is offering $12.5 million in funding to help businesses avoid layoffs until the port fully reopens. Eligible businesses can use the funds for employee training, payroll expenses, and support services. Additionally, the Port of Baltimore Emergency Business Assistance Program is providing grants of up to $100,000 to businesses facing challenges due to the bridge collapse.

In Maui, the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation and American Express have teamed up to support businesses affected by last year’s wildfires. The Maui Small Business Recovery Grant Program will offer $5,000 grants to 100 businesses on the island, helping them recover from the financial losses caused by the wildfires.

On Long Island, Optimum Business and the LIA Foundation have launched the “Lifting Our Community Businesses Across Long Island” Small Business Grants program. Eligible businesses can apply for grants of up to $5,000 each, with a total of $300,000 available. Recipients will also receive a complimentary membership to the Long Island Association.

In Washington D.C., the Greater Washington Community Foundation is offering grants to businesses impacted by delayed Purple Line construction. Businesses can apply for up to $20,000 to cover expenses related to the construction delays.

These programs aim to provide much-needed support to small businesses facing challenges in the wake of major disasters and disruptions. By offering financial assistance and resources, they hope to help businesses survive and thrive in the face of adversity.
