The Washington Nationals secured their first win of the season in a thrilling 5-3 victory over the previously undefeated Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night. The game was highlighted by Joey Gallo’s breakout performance, ending his 0-for-12 season-opening slump with a massive 447-foot homer that landed in the upper deck.

Gallo, who signed a one-year contract with the Nationals, also contributed with a double and a single, raising his batting average from .000 to .188. His offensive spark, combined with Luis García Jr.’s record-tying three doubles and CJ Abrams’ two RBIs, propelled the Nationals to victory.
