George Waterhouse, a reporting analyst from Saratoga Springs, has become an inspiration to many after shedding an impressive 70 pounds by incorporating exercise into his routine while playing his favorite video game, Overwatch. While the debate over the merits of video games continues, Waterhouse’s success story highlights the potential health benefits that can come from using them in a positive way.

Starting at 250 pounds, Waterhouse decided to make a change by committing to walking on a treadmill. However, traditional exercise methods quickly became dull for him. To make his workouts more enjoyable, he began playing Overwatch on his Nintendo Switch while running on the treadmill, using wireless Joy-Con controllers. With a makeshift eye-level platform made from storage bins, Waterhouse was able to seamlessly combine gaming and exercise.

Despite facing challenges like relearning how to use the Joy-Con’s analog sticks to aim, Waterhouse persisted and estimated burning between 500 and 800 calories during each gaming session. After a year and a half, he has lost an incredible 180 pounds and now maintains a weight between 182 and 185 pounds. His next goal is to incorporate weightlifting into his routine to further enhance his health and fitness.

Waterhouse’s journey serves as a reminder that there are various ways to incorporate physical activity into daily life. By combining his love for gaming with exercise, he was able to achieve significant weight loss and improve his overall well-being. His story is a testament to the power of finding what works best for each individual in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
