Gap softball team emerges victorious; Ride with Pride 5K highlights in sports recap

Caroline Alger led the Buffalo Gap Bison softball team to a 15-3 victory over Fort Defiance in an emotional game on Tuesday night. Facing their former assistant coach, Logan Dunkum, who is now the head coach of Fort Defiance, the Bison were determined to come out on top.

Alger, a senior, had an outstanding performance both at the plate and on the mound. She recorded three hits, four RBIs, and three runs scored, while also pitching four scoreless innings and striking out nine batters.

Despite the nerves of facing their former coach, the Bison managed to take an early lead and never looked back. Alger’s triple in the third inning sparked a four-run rally, putting Gap ahead 4-0. The team continued to add runs in the following innings, ultimately sealing the victory with a dominant performance.

Head coach Holly Desper praised her team’s relentless attitude and determination to win. The players showed great resilience and composure throughout the game, responding to every challenge Fort Defiance presented.

With the win, Buffalo Gap improves to 5-1 on the season and extends their winning streak to three games. Alger credited the team’s cohesion and chemistry for their recent success, highlighting their progress and unity on the field.

In other sports news, the Staunton boys soccer team secured an 8-0 victory over Wilson Memorial, while the Stuarts Draft girls soccer team defeated Bath County 7-0. Riverheads also notched a 9-2 win over Waynesboro in softball action, and Fort Defiance claimed their first girls tennis win of the season against Stuarts Draft.
