‘Garfield’ brought out Chris Pratt’s inner laziness

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Chris Pratt, known for his roles in blockbuster films like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Jurassic World’, is now taking on a new challenge as the voice of the iconic orange cat, Garfield. In a recent interview, Pratt humorously shared how he connected with the character in unexpected ways.

“I never exercised and I ate a whole bunch, and it was great,” Pratt joked. “So, now I don’t have that any longer, but I do have the sense that I’m constantly pampered. So, depending on the season of my life we’re talking about, there are similarities in the characters, but I’ve yet to be all of them all at once.”

The upcoming animated film, distributed by Sony Pictures, follows Garfield as he embarks on a heist for his alley cat father, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson. Pratt, who has experience voicing animated characters, found it easy to slip into the role of Garfield thanks to director Mark Dindal’s vision.

“Mark Dindal said ‘I’ve been working on this for a couple of years, and I just hear your voice coming out of his mouth. To me, this is Chris Pratt as a cat,'” Pratt shared.

Receiving approval from Garfield’s creator, Jim Davis, was a significant moment for Pratt. “Yeah, he’s the character’s creator, and I just heard recently that he gave a sweet quote and rated me a 10 out of 10 as the voice of Garfield,” Pratt revealed.

As the release date of the film approaches, Pratt is excited to see how audiences react to his portrayal of the beloved feline character. With his comedic timing and charm, Pratt is sure to bring Garfield to life in a whole new way on the big screen.
