Gateway Seminary Announces Nominee for President as Current Leader Transitions to SBC Executive Committee

Gateway Seminary, a Southern Baptist Convention-affiliated institution based in Oakland, California, has announced Adam Groza as the nominee for president. This decision comes as the current president, Jeff Iorg, prepares to take on a new role with the SBC Executive Committee.

Groza, who currently serves as the vice president for enrollment and student services at Gateway, was unanimously presented as the candidate for president after a thorough selection process. J. Robert White, chair of the presidential search committee, expressed gratitude for Groza’s capable and godly leadership during his 14 years of service at the seminary.

The nomination of Groza followed a six-month selection process that included input from current students. The final vote on his candidacy is scheduled to take place during the trustees board meeting on April 15-16.

Groza’s background includes serving as the director of admissions at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas and Scarborough College. He has also held leadership roles in churches in California and Texas, including serving as an interim pastor.

With a Ph.D. in philosophy of religion from SWBTS, Groza is a research fellow with the SBC Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. He has also taught at various institutions around the world, including in South Korea and India.

Meanwhile, current Gateway President Jeff Iorg is set to leave the seminary in May to assume the role of president of the SBC Executive Committee. This committee plays a crucial role in overseeing financial matters and property management for SBC ministries.

The transition of leadership at Gateway Seminary and the SBC Executive Committee marks a significant turning point for the Southern Baptist Convention, with leaders expressing optimism about the future under Groza and Iorg’s leadership.
