MIT senior Cindy Xie is on a mission to bridge the gap between social and environmental issues, believing that climate action requires collective effort and systemic change. From designing floating cities in the Netherlands to interning with community-led environmental justice organizations, Xie is dedicated to connecting people grappling with the implications of interconnected crises.

Recently returning from the Planetary Health Annual Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Xie has been actively involved with the Planetary Health Alliance, organizing events at MIT that explore the intersection of climate change and health. As a campus ambassador, she has brought together students interested in addressing global environmental challenges.

Xie’s multidimensional view of public health and the environment includes spirituality, arts, science, and technology. Through her studies and community activities, she has delved into the cultural implications of the climate crisis, emphasizing how environmental change impacts health and well-being.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Xie is a member of the Asian American Initiative, where she leads the Mental Health Project Team. The group engages in discussions on holistic approaches to mental health, challenging traditional models of individualized care.

Xie’s passion for storytelling extends beyond her academic work, as she has contributed to various publications and performed spoken word pieces at MIT events. With a keen interest in policy, academia, and international collaboration, Xie aims to continue building interdisciplinary connections post-graduation.

Through her diverse experiences and community engagement, Cindy Xie exemplifies the power of collective action and the importance of addressing social and environmental challenges through a holistic lens.
