Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are currently leading the IPL 2024 table under the mentorship of former captain Gautam Gambhir. With 16 points from 8 wins in 11 matches, KKR’s recent 98-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants showcased their aggressive intent, reminiscent of Gambhir’s playing days.

Gambhir, who led KKR to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, has instilled a winning mentality in the team as their mentor. Reflecting on his aggressive approach as a player, Gambhir made a candid admission about sometimes crossing the line in his pursuit of success.

“Sometimes you need to have an aggressive approach as a leader if you want your team to be aggressive,” Gambhir said in an interview with Sportskeeda. “When I look back at my career, I have done some things I shouldn’t have done. But I believed if I didn’t lead by example, my team won’t play aggressively.”

The former India opener emphasized the importance of expressing oneself on the field and off it, highlighting the need for players to be judged not just by their on-field performances but also by their off-field conduct.

Having previously served as the mentor for Lucknow Super Giants, Gambhir made the switch to KKR ahead of the 2024 season. His leadership and experience have been instrumental in KKR’s success this season, as they aim to secure their third IPL trophy under his guidance.
