Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clinched their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Sunday, sparking jubilant celebrations at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The franchise mentor, Gautam Gambhir, who led KKR to their first two title wins in 2012 and 2014, was at the forefront of the revelry. Gambhir, now serving as the mentor of the team, lifted power-hitter Sunil Narine in a heartwarming gesture to kickstart the festivities.

Narine, who played a pivotal role in Kolkata’s successful campaign in the 2024 IPL edition, was visibly elated as he was hoisted by Gambhir after the team’s triumph. The former West Indies all-rounder had a stellar season, smashing 488 runs in 15 matches and even scoring his first T20 century. Narine credited Gambhir for transforming his career by allowing him to open the innings back in 2017.

The camaraderie between Gambhir and Narine was evident as they celebrated the victory together, with rising star Rinku Singh also paying his respects to the former Kolkata skipper. Gambhir’s strategic decision to slot Narine as an opener proved to be a masterstroke, as the all-rounder went on to win the Most Valuable Player award for his outstanding performances throughout the season.

Narine, who is now a three-time MVP in the IPL, expressed his joy at the team’s success, likening the atmosphere to the memorable 2012 season. With Gambhir’s guidance and support, Narine flourished in his role, contributing significantly to KKR’s title-winning campaign. The bond between the mentor and his players was evident as they basked in the glory of their triumph, marking a special moment in KKR’s history.
