Geena Davis has confirmed that she will not be reprising her role in the upcoming sequel to the cult classic film ‘Beetlejuice’. The 68-year-old actress, who played the role of ghost Barbara Maitland in the original 1988 movie, revealed that she will not be a part of the highly anticipated sequel, despite the fact that the spirits in the film “don’t age”.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Geena stated, “No, I’m not. I’m not in the remake. Oh, you were expecting that I would be? Yeah, no, you know what? Because my theory is that ghosts don’t age… Not that I have.” She also mentioned that it has been a while since she last portrayed the character, as their appearance is frozen in time.
The sequel, set to be released in cinemas in September, will see the return of Michael Keaton as the titular character ‘Beetlejuice’. Keaton has already seen an early cut of the film and has described it as “beautiful, visually exciting, and emotionally engaging”. He expressed his confidence in the movie, stating, “This thing is great.”
Fans of the original film can expect a mix of nostalgia and new elements in the upcoming sequel, as Keaton shared that he revisited the original movie before shooting the sequel. With the absence of Geena Davis in the cast, it will be interesting to see how the new film pays homage to the beloved characters while introducing fresh storylines and characters.
