Gender-Based Discrimination Reported by Female Entrepreneurs in London Business Community

A recent survey conducted by social enterprise Code First Girls has shed light on the challenges faced by female entrepreneurs in leadership roles. The survey revealed that 40% of female entrepreneurs have experienced gender-based discrimination while in a leadership position.

Furthermore, 61% of respondents agreed that stereotypes still exist when it comes to women breaking into senior roles, with leadership roles often favoring men. More than half (51%) of the Code First Girls community identified confidence as the main challenge facing female entrepreneurs today.

These findings are supported by research from Enterprise Nation, which found that female founders of full-time businesses have lower initial turnover expectations compared to their male counterparts. The gender gap in business leadership is evident, with just 18% of small and medium-sized enterprises with employees being led by women.

Anna Brailsford, CEO of Code First Girls, emphasized the importance of addressing these challenges and supporting women in business leadership roles. She highlighted the need for improved access to funding, mentorship programs, and training to help women build and grow their businesses at the same rate as men.
