George Clooney to make his Broadway debut in upcoming production, Entertainment News

Reading Time: < 1 minute

George Clooney, the renowned Hollywood actor, is set to make his Broadway debut in the spring of 2025. The 63-year-old star will be taking on the role of journalist Edward R. Murrow in a stage adaptation of Good Night, and Good Luck, a journalism drama he co-wrote with Grant Heslov.

Clooney expressed his excitement about returning to the stage and specifically to Broadway, stating, “I am honored, after all these years, to be coming back to the stage and especially, to Broadway, the art form and the venue that every actor aspires to.”

The historical drama focuses on 1950s television news in the United States and the conflict between Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy. The play will be directed by David Cromer, who praised Murrow’s moral clarity and the immediacy of live television broadcasts from that era.

Clooney’s Broadway debut follows in the footsteps of other Hollywood stars like Steve Carell and Rachel McAdams, who recently made their own debuts on the Broadway stage. Additionally, Robert Downey Jr. was also announced to be treading the boards in a new play titled McNeal by Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar.

Downey Jr., known for his role as Iron Man, last appeared on stage in 1983 as part of an off-Broadway show. He expressed his eagerness to return to the stage, saying, “It’s been 40 years since I was last on ‘the boards’, but hopefully I’ll knock the dust off quick.”

With Clooney and Downey Jr. both making their Broadway debuts in the coming years, theater fans have much to look forward to as these Hollywood icons bring their talent to the stage.
