George Opiyo re-elected as Chairman of Kisumu KESSHA during AGM

In a tightly contested election at the Annual General Meeting in Nakuru, George Opiyo emerged victorious as the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Kisumu chapter chairperson. Opiyo managed to secure 147 votes, defeating his opponent Irene Mboya of Migingo High School, who garnered 43 votes.

The position of vice chairperson was won by Rose Madungu, while Dave Okoth of Ngutu Secondary School was endorsed as Secretary. The Assistant Secretary position went to Rose Berda, and Sr. Anastasia Nkoyiayi was elected as Treasurer, with Silas Omulo as her assistant. Stephen Otiero clinched the position of Organizing Secretary, while Nancy Odhiambo secured the role of Assistant Organizing Secretary.

During his acceptance speech, Opiyo expressed gratitude to the returning officers for overseeing a free and fair election process. He also commended the delegates for their maturity in conducting the elections. Opiyo called on the Ministry of Education to release capitation funds early and urged the Teachers Service Commission to address the teacher shortage by recruiting more educators.

The election exercise was overseen by Kisumu County TSC director Rosemary Birenge. Opiyo emphasized the importance of regular promotions for teachers and stressed the need for timely communication of schedules to enable teachers to prepare adequately.

Overall, the election results signal a new chapter for the KESSHA Kisumu chapter, with Opiyo at the helm and a team of dedicated individuals ready to lead the association forward.
