Junction FC, a new pre-professional team in the Women’s Premier Soccer League, is making waves in Urbana this summer. With a roster filled with familiar names and local connections, the team is quickly gaining attention. Here are four key things to know about Junction FC before they hit the field for their first home matches this weekend.

The Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) is the longest-active women’s soccer league in the country, boasting over 125 clubs in 35 states. Junction FC is part of the Gateway Division in the Midwest Conference, competing against teams from Ohio, Indiana, and Missouri.

The team plays their home matches at Urbana High School, with their first home game scheduled for this weekend against the Dayton Dutch Lions. The season runs from May 17 to June 29, with a total of 10 matches on the schedule.

The roster includes 30 players, including current and former local standouts like Sarah Foley, Meredith Johnson-Monfort, and Meg Rossow. Junction FC is currently fourth in their division with a 1-2-1 record, with their first win coming against the Dayton Dutch Lions.
