Get to know the man who played a role in sparking the ‘Call of Duty’ phenomenon

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Tu Lam’s incredible journey from a struggling Vietnamese refugee to a decorated war hero, video game inspiration, and successful businessman is nothing short of inspiring. Despite facing discrimination, bullying, and unimaginable hardships, Tu’s determination and resilience propelled him to achieve greatness.

Born in the late 1970s, Tu faced adversity from a young age. Bullied for his tattered clothing and ethnicity, he was called derogatory names and faced discrimination in school and on the streets. However, Tu’s life took a turn when his mother and aunt married Green Berets who saw potential in him.

One morning, Tu’s uncle posed a question that changed his life forever: “Do you want to be a f–king commando today?” Without hesitation, Tu answered affirmatively, setting him on a path of discipline, hard work, and perseverance.

From a young age, Tu embraced challenges and pushed himself to excel. He woke up at 4 a.m. every morning to run five miles, participated in martial arts, and excelled in sports in high school. His dedication and work ethic led him to join the Army before even finishing high school, marking the beginning of his military career.

Despite facing racism and discrimination in the Army, Tu persevered and excelled in various roles, including becoming a Green Beret. He participated in operations around the world, from training rebels in Libya to providing security for President Barack Obama in South Africa.

Tu’s military career was not without its challenges, as he suffered physical and mental injuries that eventually led to addiction and depression. However, his unbreakable will and determination allowed him to overcome these obstacles and transition into a successful businessman.

Designing military equipment and training law enforcement agencies, Tu’s expertise and experience gained recognition through YouTube and Instagram videos, leading to hosting the show “Knife or Death” on the History Channel. His reputation as a warrior also inspired the design of the Ronin character in the popular video game, Call of Duty.

Tu’s journey from a struggling refugee to a decorated war hero and successful businessman is a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and hard work. Despite facing unimaginable challenges, Tu’s unwavering spirit and commitment to his goals have propelled him to achieve greatness and inspire others to defy the odds.
