Girls’ Tennis Dominates on Senior Night and Continues Winning Streak

The Valley girls’ tennis team had a memorable last home match of the season on April 29 as they celebrated their four seniors: Joanna Petrone, Natalie Novak, Clara Shea, and Hannah Schwartzman. The Warriors marked the occasion with a resounding 6-1 victory over Coginchaug, with every player and team winning in just two sets.

Natalie Novak secured a 6-2, 6-2 win at second singles, while Clara Shea dominated her opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at third singles. Freshman Riley Russell also impressed with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at fourth singles.

The doubles teams were equally successful, with the first doubles pair of Regan Grow and Hannah Smith winning 6-1, 6-0. The second doubles team of Ella Smith and Sophia Bonanno triumphed 6-0, 6-2, and the third doubles duo of Alana Martinez and Hannah Faucher secured a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

Despite a tough match on May 1 against rival Old Lyme, where they fell 4-3, the Warriors showed resilience and determination. Coach Sage Novak praised the team’s performance, especially highlighting the growth and potential of players like Riley Russell.

The team’s spirit and competitive edge were evident throughout the match, with Novak commending the players for their exceptional performance against a formidable opponent. The Warriors may have faced a loss, but their fighting spirit and skill on the court were truly commendable.
