Global Pro-Palestinian University Protests Erupt Across Countries

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Protests in solidarity with Palestinians have erupted on college campuses around the world, including in Lebanon, Jordan, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Canada, and the United States. In Lebanon, students at the American University of Beirut demanded the university cut ties with Israel. In Jordan, authorities cracked down on activists, leading to arrests and expulsions. In the United Kingdom, protests took place at various universities, with calls to sever ties with Israel and weapons manufacturers supporting the war effort.

In France, clashes between protesters and police occurred at Sciences Po Paris, while in Australia, sit-in protests mirrored those in the U.S. However, reports of antisemitism have surfaced in Australia amid the demonstrations. In Canada, students at the University of Toronto set up a camp in solidarity with Palestinians, demanding divestment from assets supporting Israeli actions.

The global movement has been inspired by protests in the U.S., particularly at Columbia University. Activists are calling for an end to the U.S.-backed Israeli aggression on Palestinians and Lebanon. The focus remains on Gaza, with demands for academic boycotts and divestment from companies supporting the conflict. Despite facing challenges and crackdowns, protesters remain committed to advocating for Palestinian rights and ending the violence in the region.
