Gold Fields introduces new leadership team in Ghana

Gold Fields Limited, a leading mining company in Ghana, has announced a new leadership team for its Tarkwa and Damang Mines. Mr Elliot Twum has been appointed as Vice President and Interim Managing Director for Gold Fields Ghana, while Ms Catherine Kuupol Kuutor has been appointed as the Tarkwa Mine Manager, making her the first woman to hold a senior mining leadership position in Ghana.

The appointments, which took effect on May 1, 2024, were welcomed by Gold Fields CEO Mr Mike Fraser. He expressed confidence in the new leadership team, stating that they have a deep understanding of the business and will focus on safe and sustainable production at the mines.

Mr Twum, who previously served as the Engineering Manager for both Damang and Tarkwa, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He has implemented industry-leading projects that have improved the reliability of the processing plant at Tarkwa.

Ms Kuupol Kuutor, a trailblazer in the Ghanaian mining industry, has over 20 years of experience as a metallurgist. She has a proven track record of leading business improvement processes and projects that have increased gold recovery and processing efficiencies at the Gold Fields Mines in Ghana.

In addition to her professional achievements, Ms Kuupol Kuutor is committed to supporting the development of mineral processing engineers in Ghana, especially women. She has instituted academic awards for outstanding students in mineral engineering at the Tarkwa University of Mines and Technology.

Overall, the new leadership team at Gold Fields is poised to drive innovation and excellence in the mining sector in Ghana, with a strong focus on gender diversity and inclusion.
