Google Pixel smartphones eligible for Android 15 update

Google’s annual I/O developer conference is set to kick off on May 14, with a major highlight being the unveiling of Android 15 for Pixel devices. The upcoming Android update will bring a host of AI features to both Android smartphones and Google’s own Pixel lineup.

One of the key aspects of the Android 15 update is its compatibility with devices powered by Google’s Tensor chips. While these chips may not be as powerful as some of the competition, they are specifically designed to handle AI and machine learning tasks efficiently.

Google has already made Android 15 beta images available for a range of Pixel devices, including the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Fold, Tablet, and the upcoming Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. This indicates that these devices will be among the first to receive the Android 15 update when it officially rolls out.

In addition to the software update, Google has also announced an impressive 7-year support plan for the Pixel 8 series. This means that users of the Pixel 8 and potentially the upcoming Pixel 8a can expect to receive OS and security updates for a period of seven years, ensuring their devices remain up-to-date and secure for an extended period.

While older Pixel models will only receive 3 years of software support from their launch date, the focus on long-term support for the latest Pixel devices demonstrates Google’s commitment to providing a reliable and sustainable user experience for its customers.
