Google Play Store has cracked down on app violations, banning 333,000 apps and preventing 2.28 million from being published in 2023. The tech giant took action against confirmed malware and policy breaches by criminals and fraud rings.
Nearly 200,000 app submissions were rejected or remediated to handle sensitive permissions like background location or SMS access. Google emphasized its partnership with SDK providers to limit data access, affecting over 790,000 apps.
To enhance security, Google improved Google Play Protect for apps installed outside the Play Store, introducing real-time code scanning to combat emerging threats. Their continuous learning approach uses machine learning algorithms to analyze app submissions, identifying over 5 million new malicious off-Play apps.
In a move to prioritize user privacy, Google now requires apps enabling account creation to offer options for users to delete accounts and data both within the app and online. This gives users greater control over their personal information.
These efforts demonstrate Google’s commitment to enhancing security and privacy measures, creating a safer ecosystem for Android users globally. With a focus on safeguarding user data and combating malicious apps, Google is working towards a more transparent and secure environment for all Android users.
