Governor Evers Commemorates National Travel and Tourism Week on 5-29-24

Gov. Tony Evers embarked on a week-long tour across Wisconsin to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week and showcase the state’s booming tourism industry. The governor highlighted the record-breaking year for Wisconsin tourism in 2022, with the industry generating $23.7 billion in total economic impact.

During his travels, Gov. Evers visited various attractions and businesses, including a fifth-generation cranberry farm in Wisconsin Rapids, the first Tribal national park in the United States in Bayfield, and the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame at Lambeau Field. He also participated in the launch of the new Amtrak Borealis train service, which connects St. Paul to Chicago through central Wisconsin.

The governor continued his week with a hike at the Pelican River Forest, where he announced the approval of a conservation easement covering 54,898 acres to protect the forest for outdoor recreation activities. He also visited O&H Danish Bakery in Racine, Dells Boat Tours in Wisconsin Dells, and the Open Door Bird Sanctuary in Sturgeon Bay.

Gov. Evers emphasized his commitment to the state’s tourism industry, directing investments totaling more than $1 billion of Wisconsin’s federal pandemic relief funds in economic resilience. He also signed the 2023-25 biennial budget, which includes approximately $34 million to raise Wisconsin’s profile as a premier destination.

Overall, Gov. Evers’ efforts aim to promote Wisconsin as a premiere host and major destination for large-scale events, supporting the state’s tourism industry, workforce, and economy.
