Governor Reports 2 Killed in Ukraine’s Shelling of Russian Border Town

Ukrainian shelling of a Russian town near the border resulted in the tragic death of two individuals on Saturday, as reported by Belgorod region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. The settlement of Oktyabrsky was targeted by Ukrainian armed forces using a rocket launcher, leading to the fatal injuries of a man and a woman with severe shrapnel wounds. Additionally, 10 other individuals, including an eight-year-old boy, sustained shrapnel injuries in the attack.

Governor Gladkov stated that Ukraine frequently fires across the border into the Belgorod region, which shares a border with the Kharkiv region where Russia initiated an offensive on May 10 and has since gained control of territory. The strike on Saturday resulted in a private house catching fire and caused damage to 21 surrounding houses, a block of flats, and 23 cars in the area. Oktyabrsky, the targeted town, is situated just over 10 kilometers from the border, highlighting the proximity of the conflict.
