Hacienda La Puente Adult Education (HLPAE) is gearing up to celebrate the achievements of over 600 students in their upcoming graduation and awards ceremonies. The events, scheduled for May 15th and May 16th at the Hacienda Heights Community Center, will honor students studying English-as-a-Second Language (ESL), adult education, and job skills and career training.

On May 15th, nearly 40 students will graduate from ESL courses, while 105 will complete the Citizenship Program. Dr. Greg Buckner, Executive Director of HLPAE, emphasized the importance of these programs as steppingstones for students to further their education and career prospects. With approximately 23% of the population in HLPAE’s service area lacking a high school diploma or equivalency, the impact on the local economy and individuals seeking a better future is significant.

The following day, May 16th, will see the school honor students in its 68th Adult Education exceling ceremony, recognizing those earning a high school diploma or equivalency. Additionally, the 60th Career & Technical Education Awards Ceremonies will celebrate students excelling in job training in various fields such as culinary, trades, health, business, cosmetology, and private security.

Students like Claudia De La Torre and John Acharya exemplify the transformative power of education and job training. Claudia, a certified nursing assistant, shared her journey of balancing responsibilities while pursuing her dreams. John, a CTE Award recipient, overcame financial obstacles to pursue a career in nursing, inspired by the care his grandfather received.

HLPAE’s commitment to providing diverse training opportunities and support for students is evident in the success stories of individuals like Claudia and John. The ceremonies serve as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students and the impact of adult education on their lives.
