Grafton and Bruton boys win VHSL tennis doubles championships

In a thrilling day of tennis action at the VHSL championships, Bay Rivers District players made their mark with impressive performances across multiple classes. The day was filled with surprises and standout moments that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

At Liberty University’s courts in Lynchburg, Grafton and Bruton boys doubles teams emerged victorious, clinching championships in their respective classes. Grafton’s Rainer Christiansen and John Lee secured a hard-fought win over Maggie Walker’s Alex Percey and Ethan Choe, while Bruton’s Christoph Schweitzer and Max de Winter showcased their skills with a dominant performance against Richlands’ Jack Clem and Cooper Hurst.

One of the standout moments of the day came in the Class 5 boys singles matchup, where Menchville’s Matthew Onoff faced off against Cox’s Neil Vanga in a surprising final. Onoff’s impressive victory over Lightridge’s Thanush Buneti set the stage for an exciting showdown in the final.

The day also saw Deep Run’s Zach Fleishman and Grant Kroodsma clinch the doubles title in the Class 6 boys category, adding another feather to their cap. Broad Run sisters Izzy and Lexi Rotaru showcased their talent by winning the doubles title in the Class 4 girls category.
