Grassley continues to advocate for legislation addressing the rising costs of higher education | News

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is leading the charge for legislation aimed at tackling the rising costs of higher education. Teaming up with Democratic Senator Tina Smith, Grassley recently co-authored an op-ed shedding light on their proposed bill, the “Understanding the True Cost of College” Act.

In a recent interview, Grassley emphasized the need for a standardized financial aid form that all colleges would be required to use. This form, based on input from students, veterans, and higher education institutions, would provide a clear and uniform way for students and families to compare the true costs of attending different colleges.

Grassley pointed out the importance of having consistent terminology across all colleges, as some institutions may mislead students by labeling loans as grants. The proposed legislation aims to provide transparency and clarity by including key information such as the estimated cost of attendance, net price, and terms of financial aid on the standardized form.

In addition to the “Understanding the True Cost of College” Act, Grassley is also pushing for other bills like the “Net Price Calculator Improvement Act” and the “Know Before You Owe Federal Student Loan Act.” These measures seek to improve the ways students can calculate the costs of higher education and address loan counseling requirements for institutions.

With student debt on the rise and college affordability becoming a growing concern, Grassley’s efforts to make higher education more accessible and transparent are crucial steps in ensuring that all students have the opportunity to pursue their academic goals without being burdened by overwhelming financial barriers.
